In and Around My Home

I feel like I haven't posted anything in ages, but a relentless stomach flu, broken 5D (it's been sent away to Canon for mending), and otherwise busy life has kept me away. But in any case, because of my little bout of illness, the place I've spent the most time lately has been my home - so that's where I will take you. (Psst, this seems like a good opportunity to mention that "The September Issue" is on Netflix Instant.)

This wall is a constant work-in-progress, but it has slowly been coming together with a mix of sentimental images, found objects, LPs, and illustrations. My favorite picture, by far, is one of my parents on their wedding day. For most of this photos life, it had lived at my late grandmothers house.

Various (and highly unrelated) objects sit on top of my bookshelf.

My favorite shoes, the guitar I received as a gift from an SO, and a garland and homemade pennant banner hanging above my dining table.

In my kitchen. These canisters are no longer produced, but I managed to find a matching utensils and cake tin across the globe after scouring the internet.

I think my fondness for tea is completely hereditary. Both cultures I inherited (English and Iranian) take their tea very seriously.

The top of the wardrobe in my bedroom; mostly a mess of perfume, jewelry, and candles.

A new piece to be added up there! I was gifted this necklace today by one of my best friends, Jordan. She made the necklace using antique pieces.

One of my most recent home purchases is this branch table from West Elm. From the top, it looks like a tree trunk. And next to it is one of my absolutely favorite things in my home: a 6.5" tall mirror.

Lilykins!

That's all for now. So long!

  4. your tea collection is amazing! mine has been banished to one dark corner of the top shelf in the kitchen.
but that's because i still live at home and my dad thinks my tea thing is rediculous and obsessive

  9. Sorry to hear about your camera. Don't know what I'd do if I had to go a few days without having it by my side. And it's not like I use it everyday, but just the thought of not having near causes me to be anxious.

P.S. I so so love the Diptyque candles. I'm getting the Jasmin one soon. Oh, and I've always adored that mirror, seen from your previous posts. Gorgeous!

  24. Eli: Can you believe how much junk I have in my house, even though I've literally only lived in this space for a year? You'd think I'd be able to cut some of the clutter in the moving process, but I just brought all the stuff I promised myself I'd sort through/give away with me! Such a mess! What I've seen of your home is beautiful, too! xo

Mary: I want to see what yours looks like!!

Afi: Yes, you can borrow it. xo :)

Morgaine: Thank you!!! There are different teas for different moods, seasons, times of day... Your dad needs to appreciate that fact!

    Hiven: Thank you!!

Jenny: Thank you! The illustrations are among my favorites, too. Not to exceed the love of my parents wedding photo, however ;)

    Gazel: Haha!! Thank you

Zag: You can find the doormat on Amazon! Just search "come in/go away," and tons should come up.

Sisilia: I've been seriously impressed by how long that candle has lasted, and it smells so so good and hasn't lost any of its scent over time! You should try to find the mirror for your new place in Chi! xoxo

    JAY! I <3 you.

Le Garçon avec les lunettes: Thank you so much!!

    Vicky: Thank you!

Nxt Bloom: Yes, I love The Selby! They've published a book out of that blog, as well.

Alice: Not sure what to say about the teas! My biggest advice is to look for loose leaf/whole leaf teas. Most bagged teas (with the exception of some, like The Mighty Leaf, for example) are made with "tea dust" rather than whole leaves... There's no comparison in flavor and depth!

Thina: Thanks so much! I love the necklace Jordan made, too.

    La Michelle: Thank you!!

Steve: Thanks so much! I love the photo of them... and the ritual of tea in my family has certainly bred my current obsession.

Martina: Good thing I don't share my location all that often, or I really might be in trouble!! xo

  25. S*: Thank you so much!! I'd love to have you over for tea if you ever visit NY :)

Anna: I have to agree! They're a great couple.

Bella: Thank you!! They were pretty glamorous, still are.

DC: I'm sorry you've been sick as well!!! Hope you're feeling better. Thanks for the comment :)

Kayla: Thank you!! Not many people see a resemblance between us (I'm not sure I do, either) but I certainly take it as a huge compliment!

E: Thank you so much! Try to snag yourself a pair; they should be on pre-sale soon... Oy.

  26. Oh Nicollette, every time I read your blog I become more and more convinced that we were separated at birth. We share a love for the same things, and I can't believe how similar our homes are (I have all the same beautiful clutter - right down to a selection of at least 20 teas, especially love those that come in Laduree boxes). Your photo wall is just lovely (and my your mama is beautiful!), and I absolutely ADORE that necklace your friend Jordan made! Does she take commissions by any chance?

P.S. I'm just about to link you on my blog as one of my favourites (I don't know why I haven't until now). When you're next in London do let me know - I'd love to take you for tea somewhere lovely!

    P.P.S. I hope you're now feeling better!!

    Miss B xx

  30. Thank you so much Sakina!! I can't wait to have you back as a house guest :) Next time, hopefully for a longer period of time!

I'm currently wishing I was closer to a Ladurée just to get one of the John Galliano boxes to save as a keep sake!
