Fashion Break: Beth Ditto's "I Wrote the Book"

If you follow me on twitter, you probably remember me mildly obsessing over the debut of Beth Ditto's solo EP, produced by Simian Mobile Disco. Now, the first video accompanying that EP has been released for "I Wrote the Book." Probably needless to say: I love it!! I don't think you can go wrong with dreamy, black-and-white footage, fabulous men vogue-ing, and a soulful singer with a strong beat behind her.

What do you think? I know some die-hards of The Gossip that haven't been won-over by her solo venture yet, but I'm a major fan. It gives me instant smiles and makes dancing an absolute necessity.

EDIT: Sony is being a big jerk and made the video unavailable in the USA. My apologies to those of you who I teased with the above that didn't get to watch it. As a reconciliation gift, please enjoy these screen captures I took from the video.

  2. I loved it, thanks for sharing! Mad Beth Ditto fan, love the song. Everything she does is awesome by me. The only thing that grated me a little about this, is that for the majority of the video Beth appears as just a head and upper body. It's a shame that the rest of her body made so little appearance :(

  3. Sad face! It says it's not available in my country! Which is weird, because Beth lives in the city I live! But I am huge Gossip fan and didn't realize she had a solo project. Will have to do some searching...

  5. Oh those are the days, I’m a child of the dance scene in the 90’s, so I love the beat. Wish I had a voice like that. I always love her make-up; she can totally wear heavy make-up. But I also loved her short crops, but hey a girl has to change sometimes. Oh where are the 90’s (I miss the underground scene).

  7. I guess it pays to be a follower and get notified with every new blog. I was fortunate enough to see the video as soon as it was posted. Great work. She is rather talented and very preety. The pictures you took from the screne were great too. captured the video rather well less music hahaha. Thanks for sharing.

  8. These pics of Beth are breathtaking. Thank you for that, I can't seem to be able to see her video. I've been a fan since I heard her singing with Gossip. I've seen her a couple of time live and her voice is as powerful live as on the record.

  10. Love Beth Ditto, and love her voice, but think the music itself is kinda straight-up boring. Also the video seems weirdly ripped off from Madonna's "Justify My Love."

  11. Def a sort of homage to Madonna. The last bit with the bouffy italianesque hair, especially so. Reminds me of Madonna dancing in Open Your Heart or from that era. Doesn't make it any less of a kickass song/vid though!

  12. It reminds me of some old school Madonna videos. Hmmm this is the first thing I've ever watched or heard from her. Miss you!
