Hey Girl in the Strobing Light

On Saturday morning I woke up to one of the best text messages ever from Peppi: Want to go see Robyn tonight? Just got confirmation that your name is on the guest list!
I was completely surprised by the unexpected invitation, and gave her an enthusiastic YES. Mid-1990's Swedish pop stars that had an enormous comeback filled with dance-y gay-bar-worthy hits? Yes, please, always. Blast from the past: Show me Love came out in 1997. When I was in the 6th grade.

Robyn was AMAZING. She has such an incredible energy and really has a great stage presence. Love love love. She even closed out the show with a rendition of Abba's Dancing Queen leading into Show me Love!

After the concert, Peppi, Rachel and I went for a midnight snack at a Japanese izakaya in Midtown. We shared a bottle of sake and I had a yummy tofu hot pot.

Perfect Saturday evening!!!

  1. Robyn and Japanese sound like a perfect combo to me! I keep missing her shows and it's incredibly frustrating! Even my boyfriend went to see her last night at Radio City...
Glad to hear you had a great time, though!

  3. I wouldn’t say no to the invitation either. I love Robyn’s style and voice (not such a big fan of her music). But I like her honesty, she seems real and down to earth. Never tasted Japanese, but is looks very tasteful. nice detail shots.

  6. i saw her in québec city and it was amazing! we were lucky enough to have her in the smallest crowd of her entire north american tour: we were around 500. it was exactly how you described it, great stage presence, lots of fun.

  11. I've been reading your blog for a little while now, but I had to comment when I saw Robyn! I'm from Burlington, Vermont, and she played to a small crowd of about 500 people last week (before heading to NYC). She was incredible!

I like your style, Nicolette! Keep doing the good work you do -- it's appreciated!
