After much deliberation, and names like Sequinette, Sparklina, and Shimmer thrown on the table, it was decided, as per Jenn's recommendation, that my "My Little Pony" name would be Paillette (in her words, a "Special Edition Parisian Pony"), an homage to those shiny little plastic discs that I love so much. My S.O. insists my tresses are more "beta fish" than magical pony, but whatever, I love it. I even feel like I'm channeling a little Lisa Frank... I'm just waiting for the right moment for a unicorn or golden retriever puppy or tiger to pop out of the Trapper Keeper that is my hair.
*P.S. I wish I had pictures of the many, many colors my hair has been: hot pink, violet, turquoise, fire-engine red, even dip-dyed hair long before it was socially acceptable, especially at my Jewish High School. I guess, for a middle/high-school student, it was my trademark, landing me a "What would happen if Nicolette didn't dye her hair?" superlative in my 10th grade yearbook.
P.P.S. Today is March 1st. You may remember that I proclaimed February to be "No Shopping Month." No? Yes? Anyways, I succeeded.

ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing!!! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteNicolette, LOVE your hair girl!!!
ReplyDeleteoh I remember the days when my hair was yellow and blue and pink, so I completely understand the feeling. Well I love this, the dark bright colors look fabulous with your dark brown hair, I really really love it. colored hair can sometimes look so cheap on people. So the Vogue was a kind of inspiration. Love your little Pony name by the way, it brings back so many memories. Woohoo shopping is back again I see!!!! for me it was 2 months of no shopping (more or less), so I can go completely loose in NYC!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, so gorgeous. How did you get the colors to not mix together?! Really, really lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I wish I could dye my hair cool intergalactic colors!
ReplyDeleteahhhh so jealous! looks awesome. my parents forbade me from dying my hair any ~cRaZY colors, and when i was finally old enough to do so without their permission, i found myself stuck with jobs that forbade me to do so too. ah, life.
ReplyDeleteOMG, that is amazing!!!!!! So brave! :D good thing you did it, cause it looks great! love the colors :D
ReplyDeletewhen I went away to college I tried to bleach my hair and it came out this really ugly orange and that was about as daring as I got, but have been lots of natural shades. But I think something inside me wants to do this too, I wish I was braver like your!! it looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteluurrve it!
ReplyDeletei agree it's beta fishy but they're pretty too!
i love dark hair for this ability to have these subtle and yet vibrant hair statements.
i likey!!
ReplyDeletehow fun! just love color against black hair, it just pops! Love it
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!! As I am also current member of the "My Little Pony Hair Club" (even though at the moment it's more of a dirty washer grayish lavender) I TOTALLY HIGH FIVE YOU ACROSS THE INTERNET. If "Sparkle Sparkle Sequin Face" isn't taken, it's my new name.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! no wonder you had so many foils in your hair! did you have to bleach first to make the bright colors appear??
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get this done????? I'm unbelievably jealous of how amazing this turned out!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! Thanks everyone for the positive reactions and lovely comments.
ReplyDeleteTo answer some of the questions: Yes, I did have to bleach it. The entire coloring process took about 4 hours. First, bleach, then rinse, then dry, then color, then rinse, then dry. Bleach and colors were set in foils.. This helped the colors not run. Additionally, once the color was applied and set, the foils were removed and rinsed one by one.
There's NO way I could get these colors in my hair without bleaching it... My hair is naturally a dark brown with reddish tones, so there really wasn't any way to avoid bleaching it to achieve these colors.
I went to Pimps & Pin-Ups which is located on the Lower East Side. The address is above in the post. The colorist's name is Marissa.
xoxo!!

ReplyDeleteWish I could color my curls the same way, but I'm petrified it'll all fall out.

It looks gorgeous, I love it! If it could be guaranteed that it'd look as good as yours, I'd get my hair dyed in a nanosecond.
ReplyDeleteI LOOOOVE your hair! Wow...I remember when I was around 16, 17 years old I dyed my hair, pink, purple, blue...and red! After that I've been just sticking with my brown natural hair.
