The 22nd of April brought in the anniversary of my birth, and with it, pushed me into a new statistical age group... Officially making me a darling of the "mid-twenties" variety.
The weekend was: the best gift of all - a visit from my parents, incredible Thai at Kittichai, baby blue nail-polish, torrential rain of biblical proportions, too many desserts (including an extraordinary raspberry-vanilla cake from Dean & Deluca), a multi-course lunch at Del Posto (my favorite restaurant in NYC!), handmade bracelets, drag queens, jelly fish and crystal printed cape tops, elderflower+vodka+triple sec cocktails, blush pink shopping bags, smooth red win, aimless walks through the Meatpacking District and West Village, blossoms all throughout the city, a taste of spring, hilarious conversations with my favorite brits and southerners around the fireplace of my go-to neighborhood dive bar, dinner with some of the best at Dumont (killer mac and cheese, trust), candlelit treehouses, champagne + creme de violette, many blocks of Soho, breathtaking skyline views, glittering silver Halston dresses, vintage make-up looks, and a whole lot of love.

i cannot even begin to get into the beauty that is patti smith's writing in "just kids". it's what i'm reading while waiting to check out "girls to the front" again. she's an exquisite, careful storyteller. i love her subtleties, and the way she pieces together their past. i have found myself welling up in tears several times already, and i'm only about halfway through. the love and friendship between her and robert is beautiful and fascinating, and has turned me into a crazy patti smith fangirl. i've been listening to "horses" on my ipod when i'm in the car and spinning "waves" while at home. feel free to tweet me once you get around to reading... i've been wanting to talk about the book with someone other than my boyfriend, who appreciates my enthusiasm as i recount certain stories, but isn't reading it, so he can't REALLY understand the impact.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!!!!!!!!! Have a wonderful week! Who said birthdays couldn't be "birthweek"!

looks like you had a wonderful birthday!! welcome to your mid-twenties. it's not so bad. growing up is a lot of fun, it's comforting to feel like you have enough life experience to tackle life a little more responsibly. you will LOVE just kids, it's captivating from beginning to end. also, plz post photos of your makeup looks with the quite cute collection! i'm really curious about how it looks on real actual people haha.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had an amazing bday!! All your prezzies lokk like soooo much fun. I cant wait to see your purse :). I love the flowers and that bracelet is so fun. Funny story that Halston dress I was thinking of getting for Stacey's wedding lol. Would you recommend it?

I actually got the dress as a possibility for my best friends wedding, too, and while I love the dress it's too short for me to wear to a wedding. I think it could be a perfect length on you, though, as you're quite a bit shorter than me. It's a bit flashy, so I'd say it depends on the specifics of the wedding.

Ahhhh I cannot wait to read Just Kids!! I think I'm going to crack it open tonight or tomorrow, finally.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to lie, the lipsticks from the quite cute collection definitely make me feel like a little bit of a cartoon character, and I'm not sure I'm 100% "comfortable" in them yet. I wore Saint Germain lipstick with the I <3 U gloss over it today and felt like EVERYONE was looking at me, (this is also a side effect of having bright purple and blue hair, though, so who knows). The colors are still lots of fun but not remotely understated.
I totally agree with you!! I'm still using it as a means of justifying little indulgences :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh, this makes me SO excited. I will definitely be shooting you thoughts while I'm reading it. It's always nice to have someone to discuss books I'm reading with, and between you, Michelle, and Meagan (above) and your resounding praise of the book, I'm really, really stoked on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! Happy to learn the bits of German :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I definitely got a bit spoiled for my birthday. And yes, the cake was delicious! Hope you're having a great day, too.
ReplyDeleteYes we really need to do cocktails soon!! So overdue. The neighborhood watering hole is a frequent occurrence, and I highly encourage you to join sometime...
ReplyDeleteOhh, thank you!! How do you say "thank you" in Malay?
ReplyDelete#fail #jkiloveyou
ReplyDeleteI will!! He's actually in the process of setting up an etsy shop, so I'll make sure you let you know when it's up and running!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) Thanks for the greatest gift of all -- life AND your company!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, darling!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I made the mistake of leaving my camera at home most of the weekend, so I had to steal some of my friends camera phone pictures! I don't mind the contrast of the two -- hi-fi and lo-fi photos. :) xx
ReplyDeletethank you so much!
ReplyDeletethank you!!!
ReplyDeleteGrazie mille, Ylienia! I really appreciate it. I'd love to go back to Italy sometime soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gazel!!
