Summer, Summer, Summertime.

Summer in the City: Rooftop barbecues and gatherings with friends. Peonies for days. Sweating before 9 AM. Afternoon strolls. Bike rides along the waterfront. Museum days. McQueen at The Met. Fresh watermelon + coconut + pineapple. Platform sandals. Laying in the grass watching the sunset. More live music in a span of several days than I've enjoyed in months (YACHT, Beirut, Oh Landm...). Every weekend at the Brooklyn Flea. Creep + Nina Sky's "You" on repeat. A million frozen treats to brave the high temperatures. Central Park in the early evening. Oysters and gin. Vogue Collections. Mid-week happy hour indulgences. Open back dresses as lo-fi ventilation. Re-reading Murakami favorites. Giant straw hats. Hazy skylines.

What has your summer entailed so far? Any upcoming events, trips, happenings you're looking forward to??

  1. every photo is so different but oh so breathtaking, I love every single one! This is what a good time is all about, the little things! I have an addiction, oysters, I can never get enough op pure oysters! Oh with a cocktail or champagne, pure heaven. Never been to the ace hotel, wanted to go to the Breslin (Spotted Pig wasn’t that great last time, rude bartender). I am so much in love with your hat! You can always send it over to my place!

  4. Oh! Such awesome snapshot!

I just posted a little county fair picture show on my blog, but some of my favorite summertime things are all the fresh, seasonal, organic cocktails we do so well here in SF, lazy Sundays at the Alemany Flea, lounging poolside, impromptu backyard BBQs, making my grandma's secret bourbon slush, rowdy Saturday afternoons at Mango, and day or mini-weekend trips to the Russian River!

  6. Oh how these pictures make me long for sunsets over the NYC skyline, strolls around Brooklyn, Prada Baroque sunglasses, a visit to the Met, a picnic in Central Park...and, well, just a summer in NYC actually!

  7. Did you take all of these photos?? They're gorgeous! I love them all, every single one of them describes the perfect summer in NYC. I have to make it to the McQueen exhibit, those Armadillo shoes are fabulous and I NEED to see them in person.

  9. Yaay Nicolette! Just read your article on Refinery29, way to go! (is this recent or did you already write for them?)

  11. I've never been to the spotted pig but I love the atmosphere at the Breslin, especially up by the windows with all the lush greenery immediately outside the window! The ACE is awesome but it becomes such a scene in the evenings... it's a bit baffling! Still, I love it, and I had great (REALLY GREAT) company and a lovely cocktail to sip on :)
Oh, I think you should make another short trip out to NYC before the summer ends -- and this time we need to hang out!

  12. I LOVED your county fair pictures (catching up on comments.... I'm coming atcha soon).
You're making me nostalgic. I'm overdue for a trip to the bay area. I haven't been back since last August/September... Sigh. El Rio + Foreign Cinema + Morning Buns + The Lex + Dolores Park with a Sam's Sundae, please.

  13. Yes, I took all the photos! Well -- with the exception of one or two that are of me. Still, they're from my phone. Thanks Instagram for making them all pretty. YOU NEED TO GO TO THE McQUEEN EXHIBIT. NEED TO. GO NOW. ASAP. It's so amazing and the mini armadillo shoe ornament is a must have souvenir!!

  15. Hey darling!!! Thanks so much for your comments :) I've been writing for R29 for a bit but the response to the latest piece has been overwhelming! I think I should make this whole "proving rules wrong" thing a regular feature. Well, if they'll let me! xx

  18. I'm uber emotional right now, but I totally got a little misty reading this!  I'm from the SF bay area and although I love it to death, I'm moving to NYC in August to (finally) finish school.  Your description of summer sounds like perfection and the nerves that are building up inside of me slowly leave my body when I read your blog or talk to someone from NY.  LOVE your blog and your pictures are always a treat!
