The title is actually a total lie. I graduated from Hebrew school with flying colors,
Mazel Tov to myself. That said, I have been suffering from residual guilt every time I look at this shirt hanging in my closet. I can't help it, approximately eighteen-years of Jewish studies have made crosses, (as secular of an image as they are today), a total
shonde in my mind. Obviously, though, not enough of a shonde for me to abstain from wearing them. My apologies to Rabbi(s) Herscher and Zeldin, if they happen to be the type to read fashion blogs; you never know. And, with the major summertime fatigue I'm currently experiencing, sheer black fabric was the perfect way for me to evoke my autumnal longing with a single garment. I feel like I compromised with my (slightly) religious upbringing by at least wearing an opaque slip under the top! Points for modesty, right?

What wardrobe pieces are you using to transition between seasons? September cannot come fast enough! I have leather jackets, Midwestern vacations, and fashion shows to look forward to!
what a look! i am so in love and i have to try this myself! unbelievable! what a mix and what an effect! yep, you did evoked the fall feeling because of the black, but the bare legs and the sheer refers to summer! I love the combination of the prints, i would never come up with it! the skirt is like made for you! the little crosses are a funny accent! black skirts can sometimes be too harsh, but the white softens it!
ReplyDeleteCool look! and very good pair of legs you got there girl :-)

This is great!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people religious scold me when I'm wearing crosses because I'm an atheist. Puh-lease, I can wear whatever the hell I want. Crosses, schmosses. Hahha. <3
amazing outfit! you look amazing with that smile, too! wow...
ReplyDeleteYou look sensational in this outfit!
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit :)

You look great!
ReplyDeleteOh my GAWD, so good. That skirt.... oh my god.
ReplyDeleteYou're so gorg, as always!
p.s. the title is cute, it made me chuckle lol.
I never go near cross stuff because of the from a jewish family thing, and I always look at the beautiful rosaries in street style photos and wish I would feel comfortable wearing them...
ReplyDeleteOmg when you describe yourself as a hybrid of Wednesday Addams and Cher
ReplyDeleteHorowitz, this outfit is the PERFECT example! I was eyeing that necklace
at JCrew and couldn't choose between that and another with jade stones
on it, ended up with the jade but I might have to go back for the
crystal!.
congrats and Mazel tov for graduation, lovely! looking stunning in all black! I use a lot of knit wear cardigans for my transition between the seasons! xoxo
ReplyDeletebtw, I have a little jewelry Giveaway over my place if you wanna check it out, and might like to enter!

I'd seen the shirt & skirt on ASOS as well, love how you paired them together :)! Might get them myself as well haha, shirts like these are perfect for this kind of weather.
ReplyDeleteLOVE, COMING OVER TO STEAL EVERYTHING OBVIOUSLY
ReplyDeleteYou look great, I love the subtle pattern mix of crosses and houndstooth. I'm in Australia so we're transitioning into summer (nooooo, I wish it would stay cool!) I'm trying to eke out my winter and spring clothes for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is awesome. I love your skirt, basically for the fact that's covered in sequins. You look amazing :)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt, wish they made it in the Curve collection as well. Oh well, more motivation to get closer to the 14! I always feel a little bit uneasy about wearing crosses too (as an atheist) but I still love them.
ReplyDeleteBisous,
http://fashionandhistrionics.blogspot.com/
Absolute perfection. I am so over summer and its disapproval of all things black and wonderful. Hooray to sheer and cheers to your red lips. You look amazing.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely!
ReplyDeletei neeeeed that skirt in my life :D
ReplyDeleteI love this look! The sequins skirt is so cute. And your make up is amazing!
ReplyDeletethis is some serious cher horowitz x wednesday addams action right here. that top!!! loving the simple placket. you look gorgeous, as per usual. and dont wory about the vague catholic imagery - as a member of god's chosen people, you are on god's guestlist. me, on the other hand, i have to repent and suffer guilt for my entrance into the partyland :/
ReplyDeletealso! midwestern vacations! does that mean what i think it means?!
YoU have SERIOUSLY fabulous legs girl! Love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteO.M.G. You look SOO freaking amazing here! As much guilt as this top evokes, you look SO good in it (and it perfectly embodies the Cher Horowitz meets Wednesday Adams vibe) - and don't even get me started on that skirt (which is basically a sartorial fantasy for me - traditional English houndstooth AND sequins?! Yes please) which with your killer legs is too perfect for words. Basically I want to steal this entire outfit.
ReplyDeleteBriony xx
P.S. just looked at the sequin skirt on Asos but it looks REALLY mini on the model! Is yours a different length, or is it just that she has really long legs?
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in these pictures! Especially your legs! Oh la la <3
ReplyDeleteWow you look great! Wear dem crosses, gurl!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I love a black skirt! But then, I'm also no stranger to an all black look, in general. It can be a bit severe, at times, but this is New York, after all.... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suvi!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
ReplyDeleteYeah, my religious views (or lack of, I'm also of the atheistic variety) definitely do not bode well with the imagery, but I don't feel like crosses have too much actual religious meaning.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt would be amazing on you, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if I were remotely near my family, I'd refrain from wearing the crosses - just out of respect for them, but... I'm 3,000 miles away!
ReplyDeleteYou should snag up the crystal version!! I wish I had seen the Jade one, that sounds super cute. Glad you picked up on the CH x WA vibes. I was hoping someone would!
ReplyDeletexx
Thanks! I was confirmed at my synagogue, too - so double the graduation?? Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I need to figure out how to make disqus more mobile friendly. Are you using an iPhone?? Any details would help so I can sort out the tech issues!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :) You can't tell in the photos, but my hair is mostly navy right now!
Thank you, Celeste!
ReplyDeleteDO ITTTTT. Then send me pictures of yourself in the same outfit!
ReplyDeletebrb hiding them now.
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. When can we play dress up again? xx
Summer is the worst!!!!
ReplyDeleteYES, sequins are such a deal closer for me! I love them. Did you see my ode to sequins back in the day? http://nicolettemason.blogspot.com/2010/12/i-never-met-sequin-i-didnt-like.html
ReplyDeleteI'd say if you're close to a 14, it's worth trying. The base of the skirt is knit so there's a bit of stretch to it! Plus, free shipping and returns, so no harm if it doesn't work out...
ReplyDeleteYou ARE amazing. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I think everyone needs it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeniese!!! The makeup is pretty minimal, but that red gloss makes a major impact.
ReplyDeleteCHxWA FOREVERRRRRR. This top is very you. Next time I spy a promo code, I'm going to make sure to pass it along to you so you can snag this baby up.
ReplyDeleteIt totally means what you think it means! I'm coming to Chicago Labor Day weekend for my best friend's bachelorette party!
Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI think you need this entire outfit, too! Blogging soul sisters, forever. If there's one way to improve upon houndstooth, it's by making it into an all-over sequin!
ReplyDeleteI know I already mentioned this on twitter, but worn low on my hips it nearly hits my knees. The model is definitely super tall and leggy, and I also have pretty short legs, but I don't feel the skirt is SUPER mini at all.
ReplyDelete<3 thank you, Sheena!!
ReplyDeleteDoin' ittttttt!
ReplyDeleteLove love these pics of you. The red lipstick looks amazing on your beautiful face.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mumsy :)
ReplyDeleteYou're so Fabulous !
ReplyDeletei'm DYING for that skirt! DYING!!!! xo
ReplyDeletejessica www.lifeandstyleofjessica.com
Looking gorgeous Nicolette in this full ensemble! I only just noticed that the skirt is fully sequined and fabulous!
ReplyDeleteCould not agree more re: the sequins! Am off to shop your look on Asos right now ;)
ReplyDeleteyou look so stylish! <3 love this outfit! you never fail.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, what an amazing look! just perfect from head to toe, and your smile is so charming :) ♥
ReplyDeleteNicolette, I am so in love with this outfit that I just bought the Houndstooth Sequin skirt. I'd love to see how you will wear it for Fall, dressed up or down!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
ReplyDeleteIt can be yours!! http://rstyle.me/mecrf99d
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!! Full sequins = kind of my calling. Always :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!
ReplyDeleteOh yay!!! I'd love to see how you style it, too! Please share!
ReplyDeleteI will!!
ReplyDeleteNikki you look SOOO lovely in these photos! Just gorgeous. I love your hair and you look so prim and proper but still so edgy. I still cant bring myself to wear a cross my Jewish guilt is too overwhelming to allow this, although there are always things I want that have crosses all ove rthem. :( Miss you xo
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous- and I'm so jealous of your super cute sheer blouse, but I know if i tried to pull it off I'd spend the whole day wondering if it clashed with my star of david and uber curly hair :).
ReplyDeleteso wonderful....
