Obviously, my tendency to gravitate towards accessories has been shaped and influenced by my relationship to my body, and the frequent challenges (and disappointments) I had growing up as a fashion-loving lady. Even if my outfits were relegated to an all-black fashion fallback, I could throw in a great metallic bag or a sparkly pair of shoes and feel fantastic. So maybe that neon laser-cut lace effect leather skirt by Christopher Kane was a no-go, but the clutch? Do-able. Or the shoes... shoes are always my go to, and that is why my footwear collection, built over the span of the last decade, has reached (just fractionally) Imelda Marcos style proportions. A few of my blog readers and friends have asked me to share my collection, but to avoid looking like the fashion hoarder that I am, I've decided to share some of my favorites. Miu Miu FW11 glitter heels & booties, be damned - you'll be joining the ranks some day.

The ones that get daily love and affection - my favorite black flats.

At 5'7'' I'm not exactly short, but working in fashion and being surrounded by 6' models makes any extra height highly favorable! Black wedges are an essential part of my wardrobe, for height and comfort. Deena&Ozzy from Urban Outfitters.

Leopard? Check. Scalloped edges? Check. Comfortable lace up booties? Check! From Topshop.

My 25th birthday shoe. The dusty rose color is perfect! See by Chloe from Net-a-Porter. Similar on sale here.

You know that pair of shoes reserved for really, really special occasions? Like birthdays? Or New Years Eve? That's this pair, from Lanvin SS09. They're definitely what myself and other New Yorkers refer to as a taxi-shoe - the ones you wear from your door, to the car, to the door of the restaurant, and straight back into a car.

Hands-down, my favorite pair in my wardrobe.... I'm sure they need no introduction. Miu Miu SS10.

In love with these. They make me feel like I'm totally in charge of everything. Spectator heels from Chanel.

love everything! so jealous of the meow meows.
ReplyDeleteare you kidding me, we have the same habits when it comes to fashion! my research is endless! you are so right about the accessories, they make or break your look! so they are worth the investment! those glitter shoes are divine, i am drooling! love the vintage shape of the shoes too! i know what you mean about the lanvins, they are so fragile that you only wear them for special occasions! above all those uber sophisticated shoes are not so easy to style! oh and i love the way you are taking care of your shoes! they look impeccable (you do wear them, don't you????)
ReplyDeletecan I borrow the Lanvin SS09????

I'm also obsessed with accessories, but I don't think it's illogical--accessories inject so much personality into our looks. Most clothes are pretty much the same, so it's all about the kooky-quirky-brilliant accessories.
ReplyDeletebeautiful styling too, p.s.
MEOWWWWW MIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ReplyDeleteLove the cat shoes! And the glitter ones...
ReplyDeleteHave literally come back to this post three times because it is like catnip to me and my accessories (particularly of the Chanel, Miu Miu or glittery variety...) fetish. Like you, I'm drawn towards the most beautiful, work-of-art shoes (even if they're entirely impractical to actually, you know, wear), but am also powerless against the lure of the perfect bag (preferably quilted, oversized and with a chain handle) and giant sparkly baubles.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Those glittery Oxfords would be oh so perfect for a roadtrip to Yale ;)
Briony xx
Those miu mius always make me laugh but really, those lanvin's are so fucking killer. Great buy!
ReplyDeleteNot going to lie; I'm a bit disappointment that you posted such a small fraction of your shoe collection.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am glad that you posted my two favorites - the Miu Miu heels and those ridiculously amazing glitter oxfords. I would wear both in a men's version, no joke.
I adore your taste and I just fell ing love with those spectator heels from Chanel. Thanks for sharing Nicole!
ReplyDeleteKudos for this blog post. This was a highly fascinating post. Kudos once again - I will come again.
ReplyDeleteSHOE PR0N POAST
ReplyDeletein all seriousness though, girl you have incredible taste. those lanvin heels are KILLER! i saw your stack of blue shoe boxes in gabi's video and i wondered what loveliness lies inside - now i know!
*sigh*
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Nicolette, I love it when you let us sneak a peek at your closet.
The Miu Miu heels are my favorites too :)

My brain can't even comprehend what a closet holding 1,000+ shoes looks like.
ReplyDeletewooow - you have gorgeous shoes! i mean they are incredibly nice! you can open a museum - i would pay for it ;))
ReplyDeleteAhhhh amazing! Loving the Chanel shoes and the glitter ones. You have a very nice collection! I'm sure the rest are equally cute.

the rest are awesome! but i can't reveal all my secrets....! :)
ReplyDeletea shoe museum needs to exist. really. seriously. i, too, would pay for it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynne!!!
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the blue boxes are mostly flats, I think. How boring of me! Let's play dress up during NYFW, mmk?
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for spectators, but those Chanel ones are so good! No surprise there :) This post is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! Totally partially inspired by you, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting! The Chanel heels are amazing. I got them about 3 years ago? Love them.
ReplyDeleteWellllll, maybe I can coax people to help me take a proper photo of the entire collection. But that's a lot of work for one lady!
ReplyDeleteThe Lanvin's are probably the hottest shoe I own, hands-down. I don't do "sexy" often - but if I did, that would be it.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely have similar persuasions when it comes to glittery, girly indulgences!! I am so not surprised!
ReplyDeleteI believe, if I'm lucky, there might be a pink version of the glittery pink oxford en route to my Brooklyn abode from Paris....
Thank you, Vanessa!
ReplyDeleteKITTEIS!!

Totally agree!!! Accessories are where a person can really go crazy with styling. Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteEeeek, I can try to do a bag post.... Again, lots of work! And not quite as easy to style on their own. I'll try!
ReplyDeletedress up timez
ReplyDeletethank you so much <3
ReplyDeleteHaha, maybe we can start an inter-continental shoe swap. Who knows!
ReplyDeleteForever jealous of myself for the meow meows. That was probably one of the most impacting collections of my life.
ReplyDeleteTrousers or a dress may not always fit - shoes... always fit :)
ReplyDeletethanks for looking! :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I DO wear them!! But, truthfully, since these are some of my most special and favorite shoes, they do get more care and attention than many others - and less time hitting pavement. I have an arsenal of inexpensive heels that I'm much less careful with, (you'll see in my newest outfit post, they were on sale for $20!). My everyday flats (like my Chanel ballet flats or the Miu Miu studded loafers that I wear constantly), I have resoled and re-heeled on an as-needed basis. I have a shoe repair person that I trust (inconveniently in LA, but still!), and whenever they start needing more loving, they go straight to the shoe doctor. It can be pricy depending on what repairs are needed, but it's worth it to stretch out the lifetime of a (very) expensive shoe. I considered investing in a new pair of Chanel ballerinas recently, but my worn-in pair are so perfectly comfortable that I opted to have them completed retooled for a fraction of the price, instead. So worth it, and it's nice to say the same pair of shoes has accompanied me across the globe!!
ReplyDeleteWell, not for everyone, including me at times! But I'm glad that my wide little feet can fit into most shoes.
ReplyDeleteChecking out your site for the first time and it's a little silly how much (stuff) we have in common! I have the same clear/black lamp, same Miu Miu kitten heels, same Chanel spectators (although mine are the tan/black version) and same glitter Miu Miu sunglasses (mine are the pink and red pairs). Pink lipstick and red hair, we have to meet!!!
