First things first: I'm not Julia Chesky, nor do I have her photographic prowess, but I do love a good shop window, and no one brings it quite like New York City's visual merchandisers during Christmastime. Item the second: the 50mm lens I brought with me on this day was totally inappropriate for shooting store windows, but hey, the day was December 25th, the streets were crowded, and the air was cold; while my photos certainly don't do the brilliance of these windows justice, it is a nice little snapshot into the scenes along 5th Avenue. At least, I hope.
Don’t worry the photos are still stunning, the colors are so inspiring and yes they make us buy! I can’t wait to see them. We don’t have arty windows like those in Belgium, in fact we don’t have such luxurious department stores either! I always love to see those windows! In 48h I will be walking on Manhattan soil! Thank you for last minute inspiration because I still need a nye outfit! Happy holidays lady!!!!
Nikki, these pictures are beautiful. You captured so much more than I actually saw in person. The colors, details and the goods are all amazing girl. Thanks for having us entertained while we were in town. Happy Holidays and the best for a fantastic 2012 darling.
I must say ... I don't comment on too many blogs but yours is one of the ones that I absolutely ADORE. I've always admired your blog from afar but it's by far my fave. Your images are spectacular! I would give a leg to visit NY just to take a couple of pictures with my lousy point n shoot. Lol. :D
Nicolette - thanks for sharing these gorgeous pictures, I too love window displays and was lovely to see what New York had to offer this season as I was unable to come.
I loved the Bergdorf windows! I had to stop by several times to check out all the details. The white, snowy one was my favorite with all of teh monkey caterers and sequinned chef polar bears.
I can't tell you how much this all makes me smile; my gosh they are spectacular windows (especially Bergdorf's and Tiffany's)! I dream about a Christmas spent in New York, walking up 5th and pressing my nose against the grand windows, ice skating in Central Park, eating roasted chestnuts and hot chocolates as I walk everywhere. So thank you for taking me there for a few minutes!!
Those are definitely awesome pics. I'd never be able to get shots like that. You're so lucky to live somewhere that has storefront windows like this. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much!!! Comments like this mean the WORLD to me. Hope you're having a very happy new year! Crossing my fingers you get to visit NYC in 2012 :)
Thank you so much!! The tiffany's windows are gorgeous. Wish you could get a feel for the scale - they were really quite small, but had a world of depth to them.

ReplyDeleteThe stores have teams that exclusively work on displays. Usually holiday windows take a year of planning.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Nikki. A 50 is just not made for the windows but you did wonderfully :)
ReplyDeleteSo, so lovely! Both the displays and your photos. Thank you for sharing these!

ReplyDeleteIt's like a museum, no?? Almost a pity they're just seasonal windows - but the ephemeral quality is part of their beauty, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! The tiffany's windows are gorgeous. Wish you could get a feel for the scale - they were really quite small, but had a world of depth to them.
