I always look forward to Jeremy Scott's shows each season. They're hardly the most wearable of collections, but they do the job of adding levity and playfulness in the face of all-too-stern fashion attitudes. I truly revel in and appreciate being part of this crazy industry, but there are times when everyone just seems a bit too serious, and I want to shout "Lighten up, it's just fashion" (circa Project Runway Season 2). Where I might not have ever worn last season's cow-printed chaps, I actually would wear a rainbow-wigged-out jacket or a Lisa Frank Sticker laden bustier -- hello, how could I not? I absolutely was one of those girls who had a trapper keeper filled with stickers and pencils and folders covered in unicorns and sparkling golden retriever puppies and glittery dolphins.
The collection was actually inspired by computers and the digital age - with pixelated prints and a Midi file soundtrack to boot - but overall it felt like an ode to the candy-coated, Bindi-wearing, raver kids and cyber goths of the 90's. I've never seen so many smiles on the front row!

So, would you dare to wear these looks? Do they remind you of any pieces from your past? (For example, I'm sure I had a pair of Chinese Laundry platforms in my per-adolescence that were exactly the same material as that skirt-and-bra combo paired under the rainbow fur jacket...)

Amazing. As loud and crazy as this is, I would much rather style these pieces than try to style some of the post-apocalyptic themed pieces I've seen lately!
ReplyDeleteUGH IT WAS SO GOOD I AM SO OBSESSED SERIOUSLY, i also keep noticing more funny things every time i see the photos, like that the rainbow brick dress looks like it might have pantone numbers or hex codes or element abbreviations or something in each of the blocks?
ReplyDeletei am definitely getting that one-strap internet-print dress THE SECOND IT COMES OUT ANYWHERE, seriously, like i still can't stop thinking about it
i actually also think that part of jeremy scott's brilliance is that it IS kind of wearable? just when it's all together on the runway it's super extreme? like plenty of those graphic sweaters (the emoticon vest thing) and tees and men's hoodies are totally saleable if you style them with jeans and plain shoes, which makes up for all the editorial/not-for-production-but-totally-expensive-to-make pieces. and being able to do that and keeping collections really awesome/together is kind of amazing.
OH IT'S A KEYBOARD, IT'S A RAINBOW PRINT KEYBOARD, OH MY GOD
ReplyDeleteoh, yeah, i totally forgot to post the entire paragraph i wrote about the wearability of this collection especially (and generally, his awesome graphic sweaters and stuff), even though it all seems so very-very-OUT THERE.
ReplyDeleteI love the rainbow brick dress! Would totally rock that! I also love the rainbow disc skirt. What I love about Jeremy Scott's collection is that you can take a piece from each outfit and not look crazy! But if you wear the entire outfit, you might be committed.

All of it. I would wear all of it. Especially that fluffy rainbow jacket, which is what I desperately wanted when I was a wee teenager. God, this collection is PERFECT.
ReplyDeletehah I love it! Everything looks super awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe emoticon dress definitely brings back some memories of the first time I had a group convo on MSN. The entire conversation was basically emoticons! LMAO!
but I'm in love with the unicorn dress. that's just plain awesome! It's Kleo!
This is all SO GOOD. Every time I think I've picked a favorite, I scroll down and see something else that blows my mind! I love everything and would wear most of it honestly. I especially love that rainbow fur/hair jacket and the rainbow keyboard dress.

Gosh, I LOVE this. It reminds me - and this might sound daft and childish (but!), it reminds me of Rainbow Brite from the 1980s.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!! and love this post!

I think the rainbow brick dress would be the only thing I could really take into consideration. This collection is definitely happy. Very, VERY happy. Makes you wish the models would at least crack a smile. And for sure, Nicki Minaj will be the first one to be wearing these pieces if she hasn't already.

THe rainbow keyboard/brick dress and the stripped dress and the sweaters are definitely the most wearable. I love that smiley face sweater vest and the multiple smiley face jumper. Those are absolutely adorable!!

Very bright and colorful collections. Cheers one up :) I love the rainbow brick keyboard dress. Totally wearable. Don't you have a bag with the same print I saw in your closet from the last post? The colorful fur jacket is very unique too. Great pictures and post.
ReplyDeleteThis does remind me of school supply shopping. I remember trying to "coordinate" my brightly colored folders, pencils, and trapper keepers. I would totally wear that emoticon dress and the Bartman sweater. This is making me feel almost too nostalgic!

These definitely make me think of the 90s club kid era though I'm not nostalgic for that. Still I have to admit the designs pictured here are pretty cute, and yes, as you noted, a not so subtle reminder to the industry as a whole to lighten up.
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan of his designs for a while, what a great aesthetic!
ReplyDeleteAs always Jeremy Scott pushes boundaries with great color and very original style. I love the magic pony and the happy face sticker reference from the 90's All the 90's inspired motifs and knit explorations were great.
