5x5 with StyleCaster and Bloomingdales!

I was recently invited by StyleCaster & Bloomingdales to participate in their blogger 5x5 - where they pick 5 of their blogging favorites to style a series of looks, (and how could I not be thrilled to be featured alongside Keiko Lynn, On the Racks, My Style Pill, and Sartorial Girl?) The topic for this installation of 5x5 was spring denim - and I was so excited to get to play with tons of lustworthy threads from Marc Jacobs, Equipment, Citizens of Humanity, J. Brand, Helmut Lang, and more. Being the sartorial adventurist that I am, I picked one of my favorite trends for the season: patterned denim, with a bold but definitely pretty floral take on the look by Citizens of Humanity.

Citizens Of Humanity Floral Print Denim, $189; Equipment Blouse, $198; Marc by Marc Jacobs Satchel, $498; Aqua Bangle, $25; Aqua Cuffs, $28; Aqua Gold Necklace, $45; Dolce Vita Platform Sandal, $189.

Where did the idea for your blog begin?
I started blogging as a way to seek and document my inspiration while working at a corporate design firm. Slowly over time, it grew organically to be a visual chronicle of my life and style obsessions.
Has anything changed as your blog has grown? Challenge? Benefits?
Blogging has turned my dream of working as a fashion journalist into a reality! It's also very literally changed my style and forced me to step outside my comfort zone. Another benefit? All the amazing friends I've made through the blogging community.
How would you describe your personal style?
On a typical day, it's a fun balance of girly, whimsy, and a bit of an edge. But, I like to wake up and find inspiration in my mood. On the day of the shoot I was feeling a bit tropical and beachy, knowing that I was heading out to the sunny west coast the following day!
Who are your style icons?
I'm always inspired by Dita von Teese, Beth Ditto, and.. my mom! She's the chicest lady of them all.
If you could go shopping with any person (dead or alive) who would it be?
Cher Horowitz, duh.
Fashion guilty pleasure?
Overindulging! Sometimes I can go a little overboard on shopping my favorite pieces... It's a blessing and a curse.
Tell us about the outfit you styled.

I'm in love with Equipments silky blouses, and this cadmium hued top is the perfect citrus-inspired shade for spring. I think the tone perfectly complements the print on these Citizens of Humanity printed floral jeans - a trend I'm loving at the moment, and how great are the colors in this pair?! I think printed denim is also a trend that looks good on all body types - which isn't necessarily true of all trends in fashion. The blue pop of color on the Marc by Marc Jacobs bag adds a nice, cool balance to the warm colors of the outfit. The Dolce Vita heels are to die for, too!
And here's what I wore the day of the shoot!

Dorothy Perkins Top, SimplyBe Pleated Skirt, Miu Miu Glitter Sunnies (Similar Here), Miu Miu Glitter Heels (Similar Here)

PS - How sick does the new StyleCaster look?!

  3. Nicolette, have you found any (affordable) plus size floral print jeans? No way anything from Citizens is buttoning around this waist.

  5.  This ASOS Curve pair of trousers is probably the closest thing I've found! http://rstyle.me/hdpsri99d
But I've also seen fab printed denim from Not Your Daughters Jeans (like white denim with a lace print over it), and Dorothy Perkins also has some great floral trousers up to a size 18. I have my eye on this pair: http://us.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34072&storeId=13065&productId=4606758&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=339600&parent_categoryId=338998&pageSize=20&refinements=category~[339958|339600]&noOfRefinements=1

  6. Ah I love the top! Nice to see you wearing it. Plus, good choice with the floral trousers! They are pretty much my number one thing out of all of this season's picks. And the yellow shirt is just delicious with that print!

  7. I love your styling girl. The most unique and out of the box in the bunch. Very bright and cheerful. Love the shoes too, I need to grab a pair. They look very comfy and light weight too. Honestly, I would have never thought of putting that bag with it, but the pop of color definitely completes the look. Nikki, you look fabulous it that out fit too. Love the print on the top and how you paired it with the gorgeous Jade pleated skirt. I am also honored to be an inspiration to you :) Love you.

  18. Nicolette you look fantastic! I was with you on the Citizens of Humanity jeans, the whole printed jeans trend about a month ago... but I have just seen them plastered all over the blogosphere (as it tends to happen) and I think I have actually overdosed on them. Does this ever happen to you?! Last time it happened to me was with my darling YSL Arty rings, I cannot wear them without thinking of outfit posts haha.

  20. Hey Nicolette, your look is amazing! I was wondering if you could tell me the size of that DP top? I see it has a nice loose fit, is that because of it's cut, or did you get a size bigger than is your usual? I want to oder a button-up shirt from DP but my bust is a a few centimeters (~1-2 inches) outside their range. Is there any hope it might still fit or are they always true to the chart? I own one DP top, but since it's quite stretchy and I don't know its size unfortunately it doesn't mean much. Thank you xx
