{WANDERLUST} New Orleans Bound

I'm getting ready to drive my love down south. No, that's not a horrible metaphor. After months of anticipation and knowing that this would eventually be upon us: my better half is starting a doctorate program in New Orleans, and the two of us are driving down to Louisiana with all her possessions in a compact car. Continue...

Clockwise from Middle: Miu Miu Cat Eye Sunglasses,  Polaroid z2300, Crosley Wall Phone,  1950's Chevy via My Dreams, Frends Headphones, Blueberry Buckle Dress, Superga Sneakers, Butter London Nail Varnish, NARS Lipstick in "Heat Wave", Clinique Broad Spectrum SPF, Polka Dot Flask
I am almost nervous about how not-nervous I am about the adventure we're about to embark on. Long distance relationships have always deeply intimidated me, but my general feeling and approach to the next 10+ months is one of excitement. We have trips planned and new cities to discover (I'm dying to visit Charleston), and at the end of all of it, my boo thang is going to be a Doctor - so, hello. Plus, there are worse places to visit than New Orleans. In spite of being deathly ill last time we were there, it was a blast - and I'm more than ready to enjoy a cobbler at Bellocq and cozy up in what I'll inevitably turn into my New Orleans home, (do I get to claim part of it if I'm there once a month? I think so).

On the drive down, we're making stops along Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia - before settling in to the Big Easy, with my bags packed full with red lipstick, big sunglasses, and a whole lot of leopard print.

I've got my Classic Rock Filled playlist ready-to-go (see below), but what do I wear for the 10-day journey, (don't worry, only three of those days are dedicated to road trippin')? What are the must-stop places along our route?  And what on earth are the two of us to do when we realize that we actually just volunteered to live a couple-thousand miles apart for god knows how long? I've already got care packages planned out in my mind (and have subtly dropped hints that I wouldn't mind a surprise delivery from Sprout, and if that didn't work, hi, Ali - hint), but will a skype-session-a-day-keep-the-anxiety-at-bay? Here's hoping.

  1. so stoked for ali!! yay! my boo and i were in an LDR at one point for 10 months. i look back on that time fondly even though it was difficult because we got to do and see a lot of things we wouldn't have normally. soooo many mini vacations. we grew really close because of it and i know you babes will too! love to you both. xo

  4. Your adventure sounds amazing and if you get a chance visit Luke on St. Charles. It's a John Besh restaurant and everything I've had there has been fantastic.

  18. I drove from Dallas to San Francisco -- You can do, just make sure you take breaks and day driving is best. Those country roads can get pretty dark. The fun part is stopping at the country gas stations they have the best snacks (including homemade peanut brittle & boiled peanuts) and the most interesting people. I know you'll love New Orleans, if you haven't already been. There is so much ambiance. I remember summers without my hubby when he was interning for his Ph.D, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and at least you'll have a fabulous place to visit. Safe travels & have fun!

  19. Have fun driving through North Carolina. I'm not sure what your route through our lovely state is, but there is a lot of beautiful scenery and fun stops all the way through the state (well, if you're creative and want to go off the beaten path). If you have any questions just let me know! I'd love to offer some Southern Hospitality (even if I am more of a northerner at my roots) and help you out!

  20. Oh noes long distance...BUT you are right DOCTOR! Amazing and it's only 10 months. Hopefully time will fly and you're already got visiting down so I think it won't be so bad at all. I want to go to NOLA so badly. I just found out my guy is going there for work for a weekend and I'm already trying to scheme to see if I can tag a long. ^^ Safe travels.
