{STYLE} Falling for Plaid

When I first moved to New York and found myself in a relationship with my first real girl friend I had this sudden urge to suffocate all the girly, frilly, femme-ness that made me me with a shit ton of salvaged plaid. It was my moment, and I felt like the only way I could be visible (long-hair-don't-care) at all, is if I adopted this uniform of plaid shirts and skinny jeans and... gasp, fedoras. Fortunately, I've come a long way since then - and while I've abstained from plaid for years, I've found a way to wear it that still feels authentically me and authentically feminine. Continue...

  4. I really love that combo, infact I added them to the Asos post yesterday but my comment doesn't seem to have gone through. I was just going to add a reply today saying great minds think alike but I found it must not have gotten saved.

That dress and that jacket really is perfect. It's nice to seem them together on such a great model.

  5. If I were in your shoes (Oh, how I'd love to be!), I wouldn't know how to pull off that jacket. I love how you made it "you" and still distinctly feminine!

  9. Get out of my head Nicolette!! I've slowly been embracing the whole plaid/tartan trend, specifically trying to figure out just how to incorporate it into my work wardrobe. I think this post just showed me the light! This jacket is too cool for school or should I have said...too rad!! Well done and thank u!

  10. gasp! i want this dress so badly but i'm so on the edge about ordering because i don't quite know where i'll wear it (I work for the very casual family business in a small nowhere town). You always have the clothes I want! haha!

  11. wow you look so good in plaid. Wish I could pull that off.

  12. I do not believe it. The concepts of "fem", "leather", and "lumberjack" coexisting beautifully. My plaid prejudice has thus been shattered.

  13. To be honest, I am not personally a fan of plaid, but you styled this very well darling. Love everything else though. haha

  14. I absolutely LOVE the ASOS Curve Exclusive Skater Dress with lace (http://us.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2799923). To take this from summer to fall, I'd pair it with black sheer tights, short booties with gold accents, and one of the many awesome leather jackets ASOS Curve has to offer! I'd also cinch it at the waist with a black and gold belt. This is super awesome! I love your style! So happy to see someone who loves ASOS as much as I do!! My email is amandaconnelly@gmail.com!

  15. Firstly, I just recently started reading your blog...and I think you are beyond adorable! Contest wise - on ASOS -I'm fiending for your yes-no shirt! I also loved the bubblegum pink coat, the red skater coat, the white ruffled shirt, and the hot pink kilt skirt which I would style with a black turtleneck, tights, and booties - plus either a broach or long chains :)

  16. I am OBSESSED with ASOS Curve! I'm just starting in the fashion/magazine world so they are a lifesaver. I'd do the CURVE Exclusive Pencil Skirt In Leather with the Junarose Panel Blouse loosely tucked. I'd finish the look with a Filigree ID Bracelet, Orelia Pearl & Flower Stretch Headband, and a pair of velvet-y heeled booties.

  20. Those black lace-up ankle booties have been on my wishlist! Are they as comfy as I hope/dream? So, I have a few jobs, one being a nanny, so I need shoes I can wear during the day that arent crazy high( and sturdy) - but can withstand some harsh Chicago weather crap- and if I have to work later that night-can still be dope with a skirt/shorts/leggings whatever and those booties seem so right for that.. Also, me being practical, I've been feeling that carmakoma boucle coat cuz , ya know, Chicago..blah.blah. COLD! And the shirtdress in paisley because , I can wear it to nanny and to work at a salon afterwards, AND might have to work at a bar/club after THAT - and still not be over or under dressed (but still comfortable!) for either. That shirtdress is perrrrfect..... liragigi@yahoo.com

  22. Hi Nicolette! I love ASOS Curve - I have a floral tea dress that I bought a few years ago and I still adore it.

This season, I'm kind of obsessed with the 90s "grunge" look - or what I used to wear in high school. Lots of floral dresses (or just dresses in general) with tights, boots, and leather jackets! My fave ASOS picks are:

New Look Inspire Floral Dress - http://bit.ly/19AX7bQ
ASOS Curve Leather Biker Jacket - http://bit.ly/1b7zRUT
Dr. Martens Kensington Flora Black Chelsea Boot - http://bit.ly/16KqiqW
    ASOS Curve 120 Denier Tights - http://bit.ly/16Kq5UH

My email address is talia.phoenix@gmail.com - hoping you like my picks! Thanks!

  23. omg like i even need to go to Asos to do this haha i think i have that website memorized (and it's already open in another tab if i'm being honest lol). my super fave right now is the "ASOS CURVE Premium Skater Dress with Embroidery" that is too perfect for words basically. i would wear it with a high ponytail, shiny crystal studs, and pretty much any color smoking slippers (or black platforms for a non-day look!). plus a white bag because there is already so much going on! i feel like the options are endless with this dress though--everything matches! the dress: http://us.asos.com/ASOS-CURVE-Premium-Skater-Dress-with-Embroidery/11540n/?iid=2962743&cid=9577&sh=0&pge=8&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Black&mporgp=L0FTT1MtQ3VydmUvQVNPUy1DVVJWRS1QcmVtaXVtLVNrYXRlci1EcmVzcy13aXRoLUVtYnJvaWRlcnkvUHJvZC8. (heals are ASOS, slippers are Stubbs & Wootton, earrings are Mariana Spirit of Design, and bag is ASOS's "Pieces Gunda Structured Square Bag")

  24. I really want to get into graphic tees, so I would get the pug looking through glasses tee and put it over the dress with the asymmetric hem for a bit of drama and pair those pieces with the asos curve cat suspender tights. Or tuck the shirt into a pair of peg paints and black pumps!

My email is cookayemonster@yahoo.com (because I loooove cookies!) ;) I STAN for this heart print blouse, which is as close to the Burberry Prorsum heart print shirt as I will get! I live in LA, so the weather is usually still pretty warm in the winter, so I'd pair it with a leather skater skirt, light tights and some killer heels! The it's adquilted denimn bomber givesd me a Balmain feel, and I think d a little texture to the ensemble! I've never shopped with ASOS before, so this would be a real treat!

  37. i can't believe i've just discovered you, what a fun outfit!
i am a true asos fan, and i always have a ton of saved items (<3 Pop boutique). i've been craving golden sneakers for a while now and i'm thinking about buying these http://www.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3224147, but since they are not nearly as glittery as i'd like them to be, i want to lace them with dark-gold-glitter laces (it would be too much, but i can pull it off). and i would wear them anywhere and with everything cause there aint no thing such as too much gold glitter!

I would take the ASOS Peplum Top With Half Sleeve (in pink for a pop of color) and pair it with some dark jeans. Since it is getting colder in California, I'd add the ASOS Skater Trench With Belt in black. The New Look Camden Chunky Work Lace Up Black Heeled Boots would be a must for this outfit, along with the ASOS CURVE Vintage Style Hammered Link Necklace and the River Island Color Block Flapover Satchel (with that pop of pink again)! This is probably one of my dream outfits.

  62. Wow! $250 would buy a lot! I love the ASOS Batwing Dress With Tie Waist In Check Print; I'd wear it with my oxblood heels (with their gold spikes on the toes) and gold jewelry. I also love the River Island Red & Black Check Leggings; I'd wear these with an oversized black sweater and moto boots for an updated grunge look! There are so many other items that I really love - I could be here all day! LOL I love ASOS! Fingers crossed!!andreaunke@yahoo.com

  66. You know what's funny, I usually HATE red. It's one of my "do not wear" colors. I'm trying to challenge myself a bit, though!

I love the new leather trend that's going around! It can change an outfit entirely to look more edgy and BA.
