{WANDERLUST} Weekend Warrior

For the first time since we drove cross country and I hopped on my one-way-flight back to New York City, I'm heading down to New Orleans (today!!!) to visit my much better half. Despite how often I travel, I've never quite mastered the art of packing light, but determined to get through my 5-day trip with a single carry-on bag, I'm putting myself to the test. Continue...

While my mom always makes a point to nag me about getting a carry-on bag with wheels, I'm a devotee to my rotating cast of carry-on totes, with the Jeremy Scott x Longchamp SS14 bag as my newest darling.

I've already admitted to my rampant indiscretions as a Repeat Outfit Offender (I know, I know - "but you work in fashion!"); no matter the length of the trip, I always end up packing a suitcase full of clothes that seldom make their way out of my luggage. This weekend will be different. I think. Or maybe this will completely backfire and I'll be forced to run to a mall. I'm packing just the basics - these jeans, a couple of tees, a dress for a "nicer" outing, the outfit I'm traveling in, and a handful of punchy accessories to jazz up my simple outfits.

{The Beauty Situation}
I was smart on the toiletries front by buying a set of most of my toiletries that would stay in New Orleans - meaning I don't have to lug shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, etc. with me each time I travel down for a visit. But, there are the products I can't live without - like my Clarisonic, Somme Institute Products (my favorite all-encompassing skincare line), and my hair first aid kit of dry-shampoo and hairspray from Drybar. A beauty palette means that alongside my essentials (mascara, lipstick, concealer), I can also punch up my looks big time from day-to-night.

{The Tech Situation}
On-the-go blogger/social media junkie/etc that I am, I'd be amiss not to include a few of my favorite gadgets in my carry-on. My iPhone, FRENDS Headphones, and Polaroid digi-cam (it prints Polaroids, too). My laptop will be a last minute addition to the bag, too.

  2. I could never pack so few things for five days, though I dream of being able to. Good luck! :P

  3. I bought a LongChamp bag that expands into a bigger bag. I took it for a 4 day cruise...never again. It was so heavy. I'm with your mom...next carry on bag will have wheels! Then again...I just got the oversized satchel from 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target for my next future weekender trip. Who am I kidding? I suffer to travel.

    How on Earth do you keep those flats so clean?! I avoid buying expensive shoes because I feel like I ruin mine so so fast. :/ Haha.

  8. I'm terrible at packing. I know all the theory, but at the end I just carry lots of unnecessary things with me. I don't know how I do it!
    Have a great time in New Orleans!

  9. I'm SO ANAL about cross referencing the weather to my shoe wearing. High humidity? Any chance of rain? They do NOT go outside. That's pretty much it. I also have way more shoes than is socially acceptable, so I have plenty of options to rotate between. :\

  10. I basically had the best day ever with her. Hugging her forever and enjoying every moment. Sorry we were not in NY to celebrate your birthday with you!!! xoxoxo

  15. It can be hard, but you do get used to packing small. Biggest feat for me was 2 weeks in a carry on! It helps though that I too can be a repeat offender and the fact you don't have to carry some of the larger toiletries. Those shoes are AMAZING though, I have a feeling if I owned them I wouldn't wear them outside the house for fear of them getting dirty :P

  16. I've only been able to do this once in my life -- 10 days in Cuba, because I was scared my luggage would never make it off the plane. Otherwise I can't do it b/c of my products. I'm addicted to products dammit!!!

  17. Love the mini dry bar sprays (are they mini?). Your posts seriously make me miss NYC and the states in general (the wonderful things of course). I'm in Canada but THANK GOD for online shopping. Alas, I've been lusting over the kitty flats for months now and I have a question- are they comfortable for extensive walking/work wear? My feet tend to swell through-out the day and they are weird in that most flats give me back of heel blisters. Before investing in some expensive flats, I figure I'd ask the expert! xox

  18. Whoa!! That's super impressive. For extended stays I've started to buy some of my products upon arriving at my destination, especially things like face wipes, shampoo, conditioner, etc that are heavy but can be bought inexpensively in most places. But, I totally feel you on the products: I always feel anxious trying to decide which makeup comes with me!

  19. I don't think I could ever manage that for 2 weeks!!! WHOA.
