{STYLE} Blue Jean Baby

Let me get one thing out of the way: I hate, abhor, loathe, etc. jeans and trousers in general. Garments of the bi-legged variety just aren't my bag. They seemingly never fit right, they make me feel like a disproportionate mutant, and generally make me sort of hate myself. Being that I'm otherwise a fairly confident girl, I tend to avoid these problematic pieces all together and stick to what I know and what makes me feel best.

I so badly want to don the Jeans-and-a-T-Shirt look and look easy breezy cool, but what should be effortless tends to end up looking somewhat... sloppy. Only because the fit is never quite right - until I tried on a pair that really, really surprised me. Continue...

As part of my collaboration with Wet Seal, I was asked to try out a few outfits on my own and style them my way, (after all, high-low is one of my ultimate weaknesses).  Seeing as this was a relatively low risk venture, I wanted to try on what looked like a super cute pair of light-washed jeans - with all the requisite distressing. I mean, this is basically a safe zone to try something new, right? So, I went for it.

I was impressed by how soft they were and that they felt like real denim! Not just denim-colored leggings. And that they fit. They fit really, really, really well. Is this real life? I didn't even have to tailor them? I sort of can't wait until fall really settles in (I know it's September, blah blah, it's way too hot for me to say it's fall) - to wear them with a slouchy white tee and my amazing new moto jacket.

Does anyone else have a pants phobia? Or is it just me?!

This is part of a collaboration with Wet Seal+, which has launched their plus size collection in 35 locations nationwide!

  2. Totally yes on the pants phobia! I have on pair of army pants that I love and can wear again (thank you 90s revival). Otherwise I am looking desperately for one pair of pants and nothing will fit me at all. I hate pants shopping.

  4. I too have a pants phobia. And this is going to sound weird, but I also don't own a lot of shirts. My closet is dominated by dresses, skirts, blazers & sweaters. I'm trying to make those changes myself, I'll def have to check out Wet Seal since you recommend it so highly. xo

  7. What amazes me about you, Nicolette, is how you take seemingly plain things and arrange and accessorize in ways that when I look at them, I'm like "now why couldn't I have thought of that?" LOL! You are a very stylish, classy individual and please keep it up!

  8. Those look great. I saw them on Wet Seal's website and they didn't look like they fit nicely, but seeing them on you (same with the top) makes me want to give them a chance.

  10. I bought some similar jeans from Torrid, just to try their pants. Everything was super comfortable. Now that I see how great West Seal + turned out, I think I'm now sold on trying them out. Some of my fave maxi dresses are from Wet Seal. Just nice to see there are more size options for the other stuff too.

You are SOOOO not the only one with a jeans phobia! Jeans are my nemesis, yet come fall/winter I wear them ALL the time...I just sort of make due with the best I can find, but never really have I LOVED a pair of jeans. I think you look AMAZING in those....but I'm a bit too old for the distressed look (turning 50 next week!) Hmmm, is it possible to have jean-envy, lol?

  14. I love my blue jeans, but I think some of it has to do with being more apple shaped because I also I dread the shopping process for jeans, and I will pay WHATEVER for some that fit well. Most plus jeans are cut for pear shaped women. I've had luck at Gap, though! I'm def grabbing me a pair of these, cause you and I have very similar builds.

  16. I absolutely love how these look on you and of course how you styled it with accessories. I have never been a fan of jeans either and have had the same phobia about jean pants. Having seen these on you, I should go and get a pair for myself. a very young and trendy look just how I like it. Not like your mothers Jeans :) Thank you for being in a position for try these things and sharing it with us all. Love your hair here too. you just look amazing my darling.

  18. I'm with all of you: shopping for (and wearing) jeans stinks! I'm definitely apple shaped and I cannot stand when the hips and thighs in the jeans or other pants look like a 1990s MC Hammer video. I, too, have recently found a pair of boyfriend style jeans that will still need tailoring in the thighs (about an inch removed from each side) but are otherwise total perfection, to the point that I'm actually excited for sweater and jeans weather, too! I'll still wear dresses 99% of the time but at least I'll look and feel cute the other 1%, too.

  21. Nicolette, you are a total babe and you have the best legs on the block, and the right-fitting pants (including these great jeans) will just show them off! I love this pair on you so much, and can see you wearing them all through autumn (with tees and cute blouses and tough jackets alike) into summer.

That said, I'm a total hypocrite, for I also fear my thighs in jeans (and I mostly wear black skinny jeans because I feel they're the most streamlined; I love boyfriend jeans but can never make them work on me without heels, which can be a little high maintenance). Here's to embracing our silly jeans/pants phobia!

    B xx

Girl you are definitely not the only one with the pants phobia. Apple-shaped ladies represent! I grew up in Hawaii and subsequently only owned about 2 pairs of jeans that I hardly ever wore. For some bizarre reason, I didn't realize that going to college in NY meant wearing jeans in the winter. What do you wear in lieu of jeans during ridiculously cold winter days?
