{STYLE} Date Night

Two months into our still-fresh-feeling long distance adventure, my significant other and I have been fortunate enough to now have two visits from one another, including Ali's impromptu trip this weekend. The shift from seeing each other daily and living together, to now having only short bursts of time has been a big adjustment, but in all it's frustration and heartache, also lends itself to some excitement with a return to dating.

While I treasure my nights in with Netflix Instant (currently on a Long Island Medium kick and I'm not apologizing for it) and Thai takeout, I love to get dressed up for a special occasion or night out -- and having Ali on our turf was definitely a special occasion. I appreciate going through all the rituals of getting ready for "date night" all the more now that they've become so prized in my life: the doing of my hair and makeup, carefully planning my outfit and coordinating jewelry, and finishing my look with just a spritz of Diptyque's Volutes perfume, (it's dark and sultry, and basically my go-to-fragrance come autumn).

With an itinerary of things to do and people to see, I knew I had to plan at least one special "just us" night where we would visit two of our neighborhood favorites and once-regular-spots, Bozu for dinner followed by Hotel Delmano for drinks. Both Bozu and Delmano have dimly lit, cozy spaces that lend themselves really well to a night of romance, so of course, my outfit had to fit the mood! The silky leopard print blouse that I picked up on my last trip to Lord&Taylor was perfect for the occasion; the pattern is just flirty enough (and feels so sensuous!), and begs for a red lip. I am, admittedly, quite biased towards a red lip...

  3. I ve been on Diptyque's site many times but I am just so scared to purchase a bad fragrance. Any suggestions? I am more a flowery person and I excrete the color pink (a girlie girl to my heart). Tobacco? Not sure that one is for me. Ho-hum...

  8. Thanks so much Codi! The necklace is amazing, especially at that price point. It's honestly one of my most-frequently-complimented pieces whenever I wear it out.

  9. Ohhh, they have such stunning florals, too. I haven't tried all of their fragrances (there are so many!) but my favorites are Volutes (yes, tobacco is one of the main notes, but it is still somewhat floral a sexy spiciness to it. I don't know how else to explain it, it's very different from my usual favorites, but it's really irresistible. A more true floral scent from Diptyque that I love is Eau Rose, which is a more traditional rose fragrance. And last but not least, Neroli is one of their best sellers, with citrusy-floral notes.

Volutes is my favorite, though! It's truly unlike anything else in my fragrance collection.
